Magrahat police seized a large consignment of cannabis worth several crores, hidden inside fish crates, during a late-night operation near Tin Matha Mor in Amratala, South 24 Parganas. Acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a container truck traveling along the Magrahat-Dhamua Road. The driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped upon spotting the police.
During the search, officers discovered approximately 1 quintal 18 kilograms of cannabis concealed within multiple fish crates inside the truck. According to Diamond Harbour Police District’s Additional Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar De, the vehicle had entered West Bengal from Odisha, and the consignment was being transported to an undisclosed location. The police are investigating whether this was part of a larger trafficking network.
A suspect has been detained in connection with the case, and interrogation is underway. Authorities are working to identify the intended recipient and the broader supply chain. The Narcotics Department has been informed about the seizure, and further investigations are in progress to determine the origin and distribution links of the contraband.
Local sources confirmed that the truck was stopped based on specific intelligence about drug trafficking in the region. Law enforcement agencies are now monitoring transport routes more closely to prevent similar incidents. Police officials are also verifying whether any other vehicles are involved in smuggling operations along the same route.
Authorities have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation continues. The seized narcotics have been sent for further examination, and security has been heightened in areas identified as trafficking hotspots.
